How do I access MyResNet?

If you’re a return user, you can renew your account by signing in with your MyResNet username and password.
If you’re a new user, you’ll need to create a MyResNet account before you can sign into the secure network.
To create a MyResNet account, follow these step-by-step instructions (it is recommended that you use a computer for this process):
  • Step 1: Connect your computer to the MyResNet or MyResNet Legacy network. You won’t be able to fully connect yet, but don’t worry!
  • Step 2: Open your preferred web browser. You should be automatically directed to the ResNet splash page.
    • If you aren’t automatically taken to the splash page, try to load a website (ex: google.com or bing.com). This should redirect you to the ResNet splash page.
  • Step 3: Select “Click here to continue” on the splash page.
  • Step 4: On the following page, there should be a section labeled “MAC address.” Copy the 12 digits in this section; this is your device’s MAC address, and you will need to know it to add your device to your MyResNet account.
  • Step 5: When prompted, click “Create An Account.”
  • Step 6: When creating your account:
    • Use your CofC student email address.
    • Make sure to choose a username and password that you will easily remember.
    • For “Service Type,” choose Resident.
    • When choosing a MyResNet package, keep in mind that Basic is included in your room and board, while MyResNet Choice is an additional $80 per semester.
  • Step 7: Click “Add Devices.”
  • Step 8: Add your computer to your account; you will need the MAC address mentioned in Step 4. In some cases, your device’s MAC address will auto-populate this field. Then select the type of device you’re adding, and click “Add Device.”
    • Adding additional devices will follow the same prompts (MAC address and type of device).
    • If you need help looking up your device’s MAC address, this article can help.
  • Step 9: Restart your device.
  • You have now successfully created you MyResNet account and connected one device to your account!

How do my guests access MyResNet Guest?

  • Step 1: Connect device to MyResNet Guest.
  • Step 2: Open an internet browser on this device (Google Chrome recommended).
  • Step 3: Browser should redirect your guest to a page with a button to "Open Network Login Page." Click the button.
  • Step 4: Once on the Login Page, your guest will need to enter their first name, last name, and email address, then click "Connect."
  • Once these steps are completed, your guest should see a successful login confirmation. They can now use the internet for 24 hours until they will need to sign in again.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I connect additional devices?

Login to the MyResNet online portal. Click "Connect more devices" on your user menu. Select the device you wish to add and enter its MAC address. Click "Add Device." Restart the added device and connect to MyResNet.

How do I retrieve my username and password?

Go to "Forgot Username or Password?" Enter your email address, and answer the security questions you created for your account.

What's the difference between the "MyResNet" and "MyResNet Legacy" connections?

“MyResNet” is a 5 GHz network that delivers download speeds of 100 Mbps per device. “MyResNet Legacy” is a 2.4 GHz network designed to support older devices that are not capable of connecting to a 5 GHz network. These older devices have technical limitations on the speeds they can achieve. “MyResNet Legacy” is optimized for such older devices, and it performs best when the only devices connected to the network are those older devices that have to use it.

Your device may support connecting to both of the MyResNet networks. For the best experience and fastest speeds, connect to the network named “MyResNet” whenever possible.

If I can connect my device without registering it with my account, does that mean I don't need to?

Unregistered devices will be unable to connect to the MyResNet network at the peak speeds (100/50). If you want your device to perform at peak speeds, you need to register the device on your account first.

How do I know if I need upgraded service (MyResNet Choice)?

MyResNet Basic should be more than adequate for most users. If you’re considering purchasing MyResNet Choice, designed for hard-core gamers and those with more than 10 devices, we suggest waiting until you have tried MyResNet Basic for yourself.

Will I be able to connect when visiting friends in other residence halls?

Yes. Once you create an account, you can connect your registered devices in all residence halls with MyResNet.

As more people connect to MyResNet, won’t it slow down Wi-Fi on my devices?

Your speeds should not decrease as more devices connect. The MyResNet network design provides for dedicated speeds per student, per device regardless of the number of students or devices on the network.
